LONDON: A teenage woman, who mercilessly attacked and kicked to ground an 80-year-old Sikh man in Coventry on August 10, has been arrested and charged with assault.
West Midlands Police said they arrested 19-year-old Coral Millerchip on Friday from the Wyken area of Gloucester.
“Millerchip was arrested from an address outside of the West Midlands yesterday after police received reports that an 80-year-old man had been attacked in the city centre last Saturday,’’ a police statement said.
She was brought to a West Midlands Police station and questioned about what prompted her to attack the elderly man viciously.
The 80-year-old Sikh man was attacked in a Coventry city supermarket by the woman who was seen in the company of three companions in a video shot by a passerby on his mobile.
After punching him and hurling the Sikh man to ground as his turban came off, the woman kept yelling at him and spat on his face.
As the video went viral on social media, police asked the woman to surrender.
“I’d encourage the woman to make contact with West Midlands Police as it’s only a matter of time before we catch up with her,’’ Coventry Police Chief Superintendent Andy Nicholson had said.
