NEW DELHI: Even as India is getting bad name internationally over the gangrape of a Swiss tourist in Madhya Pradesh last week, another woman tourist from Britain jumped out of her second-floor hotel room in Agra, the city of Taj Mahal, on Monday fearing a sexual assault from two men.
The woman has been admitted to hospital after she suffered a fracture in her leg when she jumped to safety from her balcony on the second floor at the Hotel Agra Mahal.
The woman, who is in her early 30s, has stated that she jumped out after two men reportedly tried to enter her room early Monday morning. She said she had requested the hotel to wake her up at 4 am, but the hotel manager, Sachin Chauhan, tried to force his way into her room in the morning. She said he offered her a message to which she said `no.’
But when he came with another man and tried to enter her room, the woman said she got scared and jumped out of the window of her first-floor room, police said.
The hotel manager, who has been taken into custody, says he knocked on the woman’s door as he failed to contact her on the intercom.
The scared woman tourist told the police that she wants to back to the UK immediately. The Foreign Office in London said its officials were going to meet the woman to help her.
Meanwhile, six persons have been taken in custody after a Swiss tourist, who was camping out in a remote area of Madhya Pradesh, was gangraped last week.
