
Born Mahjabeen Bano, Meena Kumari - called the tragedy queen for her portrayal of sorrowful roles and her real-life story - died in 1972 when she was 39. She died of liver cirrhosis just two weeks after the release of Pakeezah in March 1972. She was the first actress to win the Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1953 for her role in Vijay Bhatts Baiju Bawa (1952). But she is more famous for her role in Guru Dutt's Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962).
