MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Pran died here on Friday night.
He was 93.
The veteran actor, who was suffering from a prolonged illness, breathed his last at Lilavati Hospital where he was admitted last month.
The legendary actor, who was known his role in films such as Madhumati and Zanjeer, was given the highest cinema honour the Dada Saheb Phalke Award.
The good-looking Pran brought respectability to the roles of villain as he ruled the roost in that role from late 1960s to early 1980s.
The actor, who was born in Delhi on Feb 12, 1920, was one of the last links with the pre-partition Lahore film industry. He made his debut in the film Yamla Jat in 1940 and went on to do villain and character roles in more than 350 films, Khandan, Badnami, Zanjeer, Madhumati, Aurat, Kashmir ki Kali, Khandaan, Aurat, Upkar, Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai, Don and Half Ticket and Parichay.
After Partition, Pran left Lahore to settle in Mumbai where after initial struggles, he got a role in Ziddi in 1948 thanks to the famous Saadat Hasan Manto.
