TORONTO: A black man and a white woman have arrested for armed robbery attempt at a Scarborough Hindu temple in Toronto on January 7.
Jermaine Copeland, 28, and Kaitlynn Dutton, 19, face charges of robbery, forcible confinement, assault and possessing counterfeit money. Police have also linked the two to a robbery at a cellphone store in November
Wearing masked and carrying weapons, the duo barged into the temple at 9 PM, rounded up the five temple employees and asked who was in charge of the temple. There were no worshippers in the Tamil Hindu temple at the time.
The robbers tried to duct-tape one of the temple employees, but they failed as the duct tape fell. In the confusion, one employee managed to escape and dial 9-11 to call police.
As the robbers struggled with the employees inside, some worshippers came. Seeing their vehicles lights outside the temple, the robbers fled the scene without taking anything away.
Police, who released a picture of a minivan leaving the temple after the robbery attempt, are also looking for another man, known as Kumar, who is an associate of the two accused.
