NEW DELHI: Former Indian army chief VK Singh has been fielded by the BJP as its candidate from the Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency.
Gen Singh joined the BJP recently after his brief association with Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement after his retirement from the army on May 31, 2012.
The former army chief, who had dragged the government to court over his age issue in 2012, will face Shazia Ilmi of the Aam Aadmi party and Raj Babbar of the Congress in this constituency that borders the Indian capital.
Gen Singh has been fielded from this seat as BJP president Rajnath Singh is contesting from Lucknow this time.
But the BJP’s decision to parachute Gen Singh as its candidate from Ghaziabad didn’t go down well with some sections of party workers who raised slogans against him when he visited the BJP”s office in Nehru Nagar in Ghaziabad on Tuesday.
