TORONTO: James Bond’s most favoured snazzy sports car in the early days, the Aston Martin, is this year’s highlight at the Canadian International Auto show (CIAS) currently being held at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre (TMCC) in downtown Toronto up to Feb 26.
The new concept car designed by Aston Martin on display on the 300 level in the north side of the TMCC is the big draw this year. The hypercar known as the AM-RB001 or Aston Martin Red Bull hyper performance car is a real beauty your eyes will feast on! The cool car makes its first North American appearance and global auto show debut right here in Toronto and is a must see for just about anybody who has a minimal interest in cars!
Besides this dashing set of wheels, the other big draw in the same side of the building on level 100 is the auto exotica exhibition where more splashy and smart cars attract throngs of people. Here you will see the best of the best where some cars like the purple Rolls Royce cost more than a home! McLarens, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Karmas, Pfaffs , Corvettes and stately cars like the Bentley and Rolls Royce fittingly adorn the space drawing wows and more wows from the admiring public.
Beyond that flashy display is a trip down memory lane taking you through 50 years of Grand Prix racing and its cars, many of which are powered by Ganesh machinery nowadays. One can overhear the baby boomers in the crowd go “Hey man, remember James Garner in that car?” And “Heck, Burt Reynolds drove that one!” “Yeah Jane Fonda had one of those!” “I saw those at Watkins Glen— how super cool!” and more!
However, before all these wonders, there is a Chevrolet at the entrance where you can leave your indelible mark on its body to celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary.
On the south side of the TMCC (there is a frequent courtesy shuttle from one side to the other- just ask for it) you will get to see the Lexus display, the Mercedes ring, Jaguars, Alfa Romeos, Maseratis, Porsches mixed in with Fords, Toyotas, Minis, KIAs and many more. But don’t get fooled by the “lesser” brands. The Ford and Dodge RAM guys will make it a point to tell you the their trucks cost more than many Benz models and yet when you see a person in a Dodge RAM you don’t think “Wow that guy or gal must be one rich personality!” Make no mistakes, some of those trucks you see contractors truck around in cost more than even some E model Benz’s!
At many stands you can partake in contests and get some freebies and also sit in the cars and get the feel of being in heaven!
Leaving the best for the last, make sure you visit the Lexus stand where you can partake in a virtual reality Formula 1 race track. A definite must try. Loads of fun! Press down on the gas pedal and vroom, vroom! Don’t get left behind in the dust! For more information, please visit www.autoshow.ca.
