NEW DELHI: Giving a new twist to the ongoing case against godman Asaram Bapu, the Surat-based woman – who has alleged that she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by the godman while she lived at his Ahmedabad ashram – has told the police that other women were sexually exploited and then taken to hospital for abortion.
The new allegations by the woman, who is one of the two sisters from Surat who have filed an FIR alleging sexual exploitation by the godman and his son, came as a court in Gandhinagar on Friday extended Asaram’s police remand till Oct 22.
Police had requested judge A V Budh to extend the remand by 10 days, as they need to question the godman about the facts that they emerged during his previous remand as well as about the new allegations by the Surat woman.
Police are likely to question doctors and hospitals were the alleged abortions took place.
Meanwhile, police are yet to trace the godman’s son Narayan Sai whom they want to question about the allegation of sexual exploitation by the younger of the two Surat sisters.
However, a team of cops from Delhi Police and Gujarat Police arrested one of Narayan Sai’s aide Dharmesh during a raid on the godman’s Ridge Road ashram in Delhi on Friday. Dharmesh was arrested on charges of conspiracy and later handed over Gujarat Police on a two-day transit remand to be taken to Surat.
According to reports, Narayan Sai had come to Delhi on October, but raids at various in the national capital yielded no results.
