MUMBAI: Front-page reports claiming that the Big B Amitabh Bachchan is about to be pencilled in to do a pivotal role in the Hollywood adaptation of Gregory David-Robert’s novel Shantaram seem premature if not entirely far-fetched.
According to sources close to the mega-star, the Big B is in no hurry to sign another international project after The Great Gatsby.
Says a source close to the Big B, “Though he loved the cameo in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and was accorded a warm treatment by the entire team of the film, Mr Bachchan is not excited about doing another Hollywood film at this juncture in his career. In 2013, he hardly shot for any feature film as he was busy with Kaun Banega Crorepati. He has several Hindi films on hand right now. To be able to give time to an international film Mr Bachchan needs to be seriously tempted.”
The project Shantaram was earlier to be directed by Mira Nair. It has now been taken away from her and given to director Garth Davis.
“Mr Bachchan was inclined to work with Mira over the project. Now that Shantaram has come back to him from another director it’s not the same,” says the source.
Confirms Amitabh Bachchan, “The script of Shantaram has seen sent to me. Nothing further has happened on that project yet.”
