MUMBAI: With all the five monsters behind the gangrape of a 23-year-old photojournalist in south Mumbai on Thursday evening arrested, the shocked family of the girl has asked people and the media to respect their daughter’s privacy.
Seeking the `severest of punishment’ for these monsters so that “even the most sick-minded would think twice before they act in such an inhuman and insensitive way,” the family, in a statement, requested that their daughter’s should be respected.
Requesting people not to visit their residence, the family said, “We live in a society where such actions will only make it more difficult for us to get back to a normal life. This can also impact my daughter’s life and become an impediment in our struggle to regain our sanity and composure.”
Meanwhile, the remaining monsters in the gangrape were also nabbed Sunday. While gang leader Kasim Bengali was arrested in Mumbai, Salim Ansari was nabbed from Delhi. Gang leader Kasim had reportedly raped the photojournalist twice.
Twenty teams of cops were hunting for the remaining two accused even as nationwide outrage over the ghastly incident continued to grow as it is a reminder to Indians of the chilling gangrape of a medical student in New Delhi in December.
Police had on Saturday nabbed two accused – 25-year-old Siraj Rehman – from the Mumbai area after hunting the second accused – Vijay Jadhav from the Madanpura area in South Mumbai.
Chand Babu Sattar Shaikh alias Mohammed Abdul was the first goon arrested on Friday.
These monsters took turns to rape the photojournalist after beating and tying up her male colleague in the desolate Shakti Mills not far from the busy Mahalaxmi railway station in South Mumbai.
The victim, who is an intern with an English magazine, had gone there with her male colleague to do an article on the place when they were pounced upon by these thugs in this isolated overgrown with thick foliage and grass.
The journalist is recovering from internal and external injuries at Jaslok Hospital. She has already given her statement of the crime to police, seeking nothing short of life term for these monsters who destroyed her life.
According to the sequence of events, the victim and her male colleague reached the abandoned mills at about 6 PM on Thursday.
Two of these thugs were already lurking in that area. The victim and her colleague first felt reluctant to go inside the deserted mill, but these two goons told them to take another path. When the journalist and her colleague were inside and taking photos, these two goons showed up with a third thug who claimed to be a railway employee and said that photography of this place was not allowed. This so-called railway employee asked the journalist and her colleague to come with him to meet his boss.
Suspecting trouble, the victim called her boss who told her to get out of the area immediately. But it was too late for her by then.
When the victim, along with her male colleague, tried to get away, these goons stopped them, saying the victim’s male colleague was behind a murder in the area some time ago. Even as the victim’s male colleague protested saying that he was coming to this area for the first time, two more thugs joined these three goons. The five tied the victim’s male colleague and dragged her away behind a thicket where they gangraped her.
Even as this poor girl was being subjected to gangrape by these monsters, she got a call from her mother. They threatened her with a broken beer bottle and told her to tell her mother that everything is fine.
After the abominable deed, these goons escorted the victim and her colleague out and warned her of dire consequences if she told anyone of her ordeal.
But once out, the broker victim informed her office of her ordeal and she was straightway taken to hospital.
