MUMBAI: Actor Aamir Khan, who kicked off the second season of his TV show Satyamev Jayate (Victory to truth) on Sunday, March 2) which exposes ills in Indian society, has reportedly received death threats, forcing him to buy a new bombproof car.
The new customized Mercedes Benz S600 has cost the actor over Rs 10 crore, making him the country’s third person after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and industrialist Mukesh Ambani to own this `special protection’ car which can withstand bombs and bullets.
Aamir, who has denied receiving death threats, has openly discussed female foeticide, honour killings, violence against women and other burning issues facing India, thus discomfiting some sections of society.
“After the first season of Satyamev Jayate, Aamir Khan received a few threats as he had openly talked against female foeticide, medical malpractices and honour killings in the show. He then decided to purchase this expensive bombproof car. There are a lot of people out there who own bulletproof cars, but his bombproof car is a customized model and it is specially made for VVIPs,’’ Bollywood Mantra reported, quoting a source close to Aamir Khan.
The report said Aamir Khan was offered police protection, but he refused, instead beefing up his own security by ordering the new car.
“The second season of his show and its episodes may throw light on issues such as governance, corruption and the Lok Sabha elections this year. So he was advised to take no chances,” the report quoted the source close to the actor as saying.
Aamir Khan has said that his mother Zenat Husain is worried for his well-being. “My mother is scared…her reaction is different. She says, ‘You are showing people who do wrong, with the right intention’, but she says she is scared that what if those people go against me or harm me. After all, she is a mother, so she is scared.’’
