NEW YORK: A 61-year-old Indian American was arrested on Sunday for sexually molesting a woman passenger on a flight from Houston to Newark.
Devender Singh, who lives in Baton Rouge, allegedly molested the woman who was seated next to him in the window seat. When she fell asleep, Singh kissed her and sexually assaulted her.
A startled woman woke up and pushed Singh away. She complained to the cabin crew about the sex assault by Singh. Police were present at the airport to arrest Singh when the flight landed.
Singh appeared in a New Jersey court on Monday and charged with sexual assault. He faces up to two years in jail and a fine of $250,000.
Charging Singh, the prosecution said, “After pushing Singh off of her and telling him to get away, the woman went to the back of the plane and told a flight crew member what had happened, asking that the police be present when the plane landed.’’
This is not the first time that an Indian American has been arrested for molesting a fellow passenger on a flight in the US.
Last year, the FBI arrested 39-year-old Saurabh Agarwal at Reagan National Airport in Virginia for molesting a woman passenger by “hugging her body, with his hand inside her bra, fondling her breast ”on an American Airlines flight.
