TORONTO: Five duos or jodis have qualified for the semi-finals of the Toronto Dancing Superstar Duet competition held in Toronto. The finals will be held on Feb 6.
Making the announcement at a press conference in Mississauga on Wednesday, organizers said the auditions held presented an assortment of dance forms included Hip Hop, Salsa, Brazilian samba, Bollywood, Bhangra and Gidda.
The five semi-finalists are:
- Daniel Galicia & James Gibbs
- Briia and Sean Quinlan
- Lloyd Williams and Melina Damian
- Anusha Bhakthan & Jisha
- Vanessa Mangar and Deepta Bonik
The five duets were finalized after extensive LIVE auditions were held for more than 40 duets at TAG TV Studios in Mississauga on December 19 where they were judged by a panel of stalwarts from the Performing Arts Industry. Ten duets plus one wildcard entry then entered the Viewer’s Choice Audience Poll segment when their videos were uploaded on YouTube and social media and selected by Lovebirds2016 online judge Ruchi Kumar, trained Bollywood jazz instructor with SHIAMAK Toronto and former first runner up in Miss India Canada.
“We are delighted to see diversity of dance forms from several communities. There was dynamism, vitality, oomph and zest from participants,” say Tahir Khan, Tabi Moazzam, Ratika Atwal and Sharan Kaur, directors at TK Connections.
“We wanted to bring this one of a kind dance competition to the Greater Toronto area where duets and partners came up with unique and superb talent and expressed their creativity though coordination and collaboration.”
The five duets will now perform to win the coveted title at LoveBirds2016, The Valentine Night on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Verdi Banquet Hall, 3550 Derry Rd E, Mississauga in front of an audience of over 500 people.
