LONDON: Two Pakistani sisters have been shot dead for tarnishing their family’s reputation by dancing in the rain and making a video of it.
According to reports in the media here, the incident happened last Sunday when the footage of the two sisters – Noor Basra, 15, and Noor Sheza, 16 – was circulated on mobile phones in the town of Chilas in the Gilgit region of northern Pakistan.
In the video, the two sisters dressed in traditional shalwar kameez and headscarves are dancing in the rain and one of them even stops to smile into the camera.
They are seen to be running after two younger children in the video shot outside their house. But this little fun by the two innocent girls was by seen by the conservative society as tarnishing their reputation.
The two girls and their mother Noshehra were shot dead by five gunmen last Sunday outside their home.
Police suspect their 22-year-old stepbrother Khutore arranged the killings to restore the family’s `honour.’ He is absconding with his accomplices.
Under strict Sharia law, singing and dancing are banned.
