TORONTO: Two young Canadian women and their accomplice from Quebec have been arrested while trying to smuggle 90 kg of cocaine worth over $30 million into Australia.
It is the largest cocaine seizure ever in Australia.
Melina Roberge, 22, Isabelle Lagacé, 28, Andre Tamine, 63, were arrested at the weekend in Sydney when their cruise Sea Princess reached the harbour.
The two women have been on a round-the-world voyage on the cruise, each paying $20,000.
They appeared in a Sydney court on Monday. They will stay in jail till their next court appearance on Oct 26.
The three face life in jail if convicted.
The two women took the cruise from Britain. The cruise took them to Canada, the US, Colombia, Peru and New Zealand before reaching Sydney on Sunday.
Roberge is employed at a Pandora jewelry store in Quebec.
They posted their bikini-clad pictures on facebook and Instagram during the voyage.
