TORONTO: As many as 128, 936 people from over 190 countries around the world took Canadian citizenship in 2013.
In 2014, more than 41,000 people have already taken oath as citizens of Canada.
On average, Canada admits over 257,000 new immigrants each year and they have to live for three years in Canada to be eligible for citizenship. Permanent residents have to wait for a over year to get citizenship after applying for it.
But many people don’t apply for citizenship and remain only as permanent residents of Canada. Many others return to the country of their origin for various reasons, including their failure to get jobs in their professions.
Canada says it has the highest rate of naturalization in the world, with 85 percent permanent residents opting to become citizens of this country. In 2013, Canada received 333,860 citizenship application, according to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
Immigration has become a big source of income for Canada as a new immigrant family on average brings $20,000- $30,000 into Canada.
Over 100,000 foreign students also pump more than $8 billion into Canada.
Brand Canada sells, though few immigrants get jobs or professions of their liking. In fact, Toronto is famous for having the world’s largest number of foreign qualified doctors who drive taxis for a living.
